Numerous data are already in the data collection. They are
grouped into profile-data (bottle data) and surface data*. The data
are now worked up and the PIs are asked to cross-check. The
following lists contain the actual collection of CARINA data. They
are sorted by year and by cruise. File names are chosen according to
the cruises with: digit 1 to 4: NODC ship code, next 3 digits:
cruise number, last digit: leg. If a cruise number is not (yet)
available, the last 4 digits identify the cruise date: two digits
for the year and the following two for the month.
* due to recent VOS programs, many surface data sets
were and are collected. This site is not well suited to serve as a
data base for these files. Eventually, this files will be stored in
a relational database in a specific format somewhere. We will add a
link to this site as soon as it exists. Surface files will then be
removed from this server. However, we intend to keep the cruise
track maps on this site.
A list
contains the NODC ship codes for the research vessels that have been
used to collect CARINA data. A full list of NODC ship codes is
available at: http://oceanic.cms.udel.edu/ships/
If available, a sketch of the cruise track (GIF-file) is
displayed when you click on the filename.

LIST 1: BOTTLE DATA
A description of the file formats and file
extensions can be found here. For Ocean Data View
software (copyright: R. Schlitzer), click here.

Notes:
*: The PI list is
according to the current information and may be not correct
throughout. Please mail if you detect any inconsistencies. It
indicates the PI for CT measurements in general, in
most cases, PIs for other carbon measurements (AT, pH,
pCO2)
are also listed. But note: different people may be
responsible for other data sets given in the files, e.g. T,S and
nutrients, and you may have to ask for permission to use these
data.
1:
F.S. Polarstern (06AQ) has a proper
cruise numbering: cruises to the Arctic are named ARK and to the
Antarctic are named ANT, both with the cruise numbers added as roman
numbers. To get these cruises into our 8 digit scheme, we named the
cruises with the letter N or S (for north- and southbound cruises),
followed by a two digit cruise number and the last digit is used for
the leg. The sub-division of the legs into a,b,c etc is abandoned
(Example: Polarstern cruise 'ANT X 1a' becomes
06AQS101).
2: No NODC
number known. The number shown here seems not to collide with other
existing labelling.
The figure below (upper) shows on overview of the of stations
with depth profiles of total dissolved inorganic carbon (CT) in the North Atlantic. Often also alkalinity data
exist from this samples. The middle figure shows the same for the
whole Atlantic and the lower figure shows surface pCO2 data coverage in the North Atlantic.
